Academy of Holistic Fitness recertification FAQ’s

Personal trainers, group fitness instructors, yoga teachers and other professionals often ask the following questions about choosing Academy of Holistic Fitness home study courses for their recertification. If these FAQ’s don’t answer your question(s), please contact us by email at LindaChristy@AcademyOfHolisticFitness.com or call (615) 370-0310 from 9:00-5:00pm CST.

Q: I’m a Personal Trainer with minimal (or no) background in Yoga. Why would I choose one of your Holistic Fitness courses? Don’t I need to study yoga for many years to be qualified to teach it? Which of your correspondence courses would be best me?

A: You don’t have to be a dedicated yogi or professional yoga teacher to be able to teach basic yoga postures and simple breathing inquiries. I believe that any personal trainer can and should learn to teach some yoga. In fact, it would probably be a disservice to your clientele if you did not include yoga techniques in your personal training repertoire.

The Academy of Holistic Fitness courses present yoga in a fitness-oriented, scientific manner that is easy to understand, learn and teach. We emphasize safety, practicality, and ease of instruction. Each course provides a myriad of techniques for stretching, breathing, relaxing, and focusing. Our goal is to help you provide your clients with lifestyle wellness techniques for stress reduction and general health.

The best and most comprehensive course for you is Practical Yoga for Personal Trainers. This course is worth 2.2 ACE CEC's and fulfills your total 2-year recertification requirement. If you are interested in combining Yoga, Mind-Body Fitness, and Pilates, choose Enlighten Your Body for 2.0 ACE CEC’s. If you are a true yoga novice, choose the introductory course Breathe, Stretch, Relax and Meditate for .4 ACE CEC’s.

Q: I’m a Group Fitness Instructor – but certainly no Yoga expert. Why would I choose one of your Holistic Fitness courses? Which home study courses would be best for me?

A: Many Academy of Holistic Fitness courses are designed specifically to train group fitness instructors in the art and science of teaching yoga classes. These courses will help you learn the proper alignment of yoga postures, sequencing, and safety guidelines so that you can teach with confidence, compassion and creativity.

The best courses for you are Asana Excellence Series: Basic Alignment (A great starter course for new or novice yoga teachers; learn 20+ popular yoga postures), Asana Excellence Series: Refining and Energizing Alignment (deeper understanding of alignment strategies and how yoga postures affect the health of organs and glands), and The Vinyasa Specialist (poses linked with movement – a popular, active yoga class trend). If you are interested in teaching a gentler yoga class for basic beginners, seniors, or for relieving back pain, choose Yoga for Prevention of Low Back Pain (some previous yoga experience recommended).

Q: I’m a yoga instructor and need to earn my CEC’s. Are your home study courses for yoga instructors of all levels?

See the guide below to help you select the course(s) that are most appropriate for your current level of expertise and professionals needs. Many of our courses are included in their home study program. See www.netafit.org for details.

Q: I’m interested in becoming a certified personal trainer or group fitness instructor. Can I take your course(s) to get my initial certification?

A: No, you’ll need to contact the American Council on Exercise (ACE), The National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA), or other professional certification association and attend a preparatory training course in person (courses are scheduled periodically across the U.S.) and/or complete a written proctored exam. Then you’ll need to re-certify every 2 years. At that point, Academy of Holistic Fitness can provide you with high quality courses to earn your requisite CEC’s.
